Carn Goch, the atmospheric ancient hill fort overlooking the Tywi valley, provided a great location for the final battle for the Winter League top spot. With a welcome return to form Chris Lewis pipped rising star Oscar Healey to first place by just 40 seconds. Chris obviously retaining his fitness from the Barcelona Iron Man, held his nerve to navigate cleanly through the rocky landscape. Oscar was 6 seconds ahead with only 2 controls to go to the Finish, but lost 50 seconds on the next two legs to allow Chris to take first place. Phil England came in a close 3rd and was also making a welcome return to Orienteering after tackling some tough mountain marathon races. He made early errors as he adjusted to the finer navigation needed for the area. First woman was Margaret Reynolds in 4th place followed closely by Roger Stein in 5th. On the orange course it was great to see a close battle between the four members of the Juliff family, who battling the rain that had descended onto the hill, raced in with only 45 seconds separating all of four them.
