The hills above Brynamman at the western edge of the Brecon Beacons was the venue for the first event of the SBOC 2019/20 Winter League. On complex terrain with fantastic views, runners enjoyed blue skies and warm conditions. The courses set by Kerina Lake tested both long distance and close navigation skills and the senior courses were hotly contested.
Many of the newer members were able to enjoy the pre event coaching session to refresh and build their skills and then were able to apply these in the main event. On the Orange course, young Robin Irwin completed the course in 44 minutes on his first race unaccompanied. On light Green his mother, Bethan, came first with a time of 55 minutes with Ruth Dye in 2nd. The Green course young Freddie Lake came first with a great time of 56.38 and was able to beat Dave Doherty (SBOC) and Allan Darwell (Bristol). On the longer Blue course, 4 minutes separated the first 4 runners with first and second places separated by only 1 second. Mark Saunders (Bristol) completed the course in 59.23 to take first place with Niall Reynolds (SBOC) 1 second behind. Swansea Bay runner Steve Jones came third and Steve Quinton, also of Swansea Bay came 4th.
