In the hills above Tregaron there is a complex area of rocky hills and marshes that form the source of the river Teifi. Just west of the wild unspoilt conuntryside of the Elan Valley catchments this is a great area for Orienteering. And so it proved to be again, for last weekends Welsh League organised by Mid Wales Orienteers.
A small number of Swansea runners made it up to the event and across a range of courses put in some good performances.
Ben Mitchell came first on the Brown Course completing the 8.0km course in a remarkable time of 50.06, some 6 minutes ahead of the second place runner.
On the Blue Course, Niall Reynolds managed to grab 3rd place but lost out on 2nd place after a 4 minute error on Control 6. On the same course Margaret Reynolds and Kerina Lake were separated by just 8 seconds and finished as 2nd and 3rd ladies respectively behind Christine Farr from Cardiff.
On the Green Course, Diana McClure and Ann Mitchell were also within a minute of each other in a close fought competition between the first three ladies, with Diana pipped by just 5 seconds into 2nd place by Jill Manning.
On the Light Green Course, Ruth Dye continued to build on her recent experiences and completed her first Welsh League, as this was only her 2nd major event she did really well and her split times showing that she was among the top 3 fastest runners for many of the legs. Unfortunately one control proved particuarly challenging and she lost a lot of time but nevertheless a great result.
