Well done to the hardy souls who came on down to Oxwich Burrows today for our Christmas themed Score event. The final event of our 50th year.
Today's courses were planned by Santa Freddie, with competitors aiming to get maximum points by not only dibbing as many controls as possible in the 60 minutes, but dibbing them in a specific order. Each control itself was worth 10 points, however if you dibbed a green control and then dibbed 3 red controls afterwards, you got an extra 20 points. With 7 green controls and 21 red controls you could potentially get 420 points. Then there was the roving Father Christmas control - if you caught him and dib the control he was carrying, you got an extra 50 points!
Despite the horrific weather, it was great fun and there were lots of smiles, and befuddlement from passers-by as to why a very large Santa was bobbing his way through the dunes. Congratulations to Ben Mitchell who scored maximum points in a time of 56.54 mins. Megan Carter Davies also got maximum points, but was 16 seconds over the time limit so had 10 points deducted. Third place was taken by Kerina Lake.
On the Yellow course, James Morris whipped round the course to take 1st place, with sister Lucie using new skills in compass bearings to make sure she was going the right way. Unfortunately Murdoc was blown off course, but made his way back safely. Well done to you all for turning up and getting stuck in.
Full results here. Then it was off to the Gower Inn where over 30 members enjoyed the social and Xmas meal. This was followed by a Prize Giving for the 2022 Club Championships and the 2022 Summer League. In addition we were able to present the Silver Shoe award to William Lake for the fastest run in at the CompassSport Cup final in Scotland. A great way to end to a significant year in the history of the club as we celebrated the 50th year since the club began. This is our last event of 2022, but we are back in January with a full calendar of fantastic events, starting at Clyne Valley on Sunday the 8th January.. Entries and open and details are on the website Here.
