25 brave Swansea Bay Orienteers made the long journey to Stirling for the final of the UK Small Clubs Cup Competition with 15 teams battling for the Trophy award. With the event located at the Tulliallan Police Academy and using the tricky Devilla forest it made for a great competition. The clubs top two runners, Megan Carter Davies and Ben Mitchell scored 100 and 99 points respectively coming first and second on their courses. Mother and daughter Margaret and Katie Reynolds scored 98 and 95 points to keep up the pressure on the local Scottish teams. But the local teams were too strong taking the first three places and four out of the top five positions. It was only SBOC who were the best of the all the English and Welsh Clubs, that prevented a clean sweep by the Scottish Clubs of the top 5 positions.
The full scorers are listed here, but the rest of the team played an important role too, pushing down opposition runners to lower their scores. Megan Carter-Davies-100; Ben Mitchell- 99; Margaret Reynolds- 98; Katie Reynolds- 95; Katie Lake- 92; Niall Reynolds- 92; Sam Healy- 91; Steve Quinton- 90; William Lake- 90; Diana McClure- 90; Chris Lewis- 87; Robin Irwin- 84; Iestyn Evans- 82.
Despite just missing out on a podium, it was great to see so many prepared to make the journey to ensure the team had strength in depth. It was a great club outing and spirits were high for the travel home as the team realized they were the best of all the English and Welsh Clubs on the day. Thanks to all of you for giving up your weekend for the club.
