A great weekend was had by all in North Wales on the weekend. Saturday saw the Eryri club host their first Welsh League of the season on Moel Smytho providing tremendous views in all directions, from Anglesey in the north to snow capped Yr Wyddfa in the south. The Welsh League served as an appetizer and warm up to the main event of the 2025 Welsh Championships on the Sunday again hosted by the Eryri Orienteering Club..
The Championships were held at Llechweddgain near Bronaber and provided an excellent test of navigation and fitness. The courses were challenging and the weather was fantastic.
It was clear but cold and with paths being in short supply as navigational aids, marshes, rocky outcrops and big contour features were being favoured by participants as attack points for finding controls.
Congratulations to team SBOC and the following runners who were crowned 2025 Welsh Champions:
M16 Robin Irwin
M20 Freddie Lake
M21 William Reynolds
W45 Bethan Irwin
W60 Kate O’Sullivan
M70 Mike Kay
There were plenty of 2nd and 3rd places taken by club members as well - Da iawn pawb.
The next Welsh League event is in the Western Brecon Beacons at Pen Rhiw Wen on Saturday 22nd March. Hope to see as many club members there as possible.
