Swansea Bay OC were proud to host the combined British and Welsh Long distance Orienteering Championships. With over 1000 entrants coming from all over the UK to Carreg Goch in the Brecon Beacons it was a huge challenge for the organisational skills of the club and its members.
However all went well, and we received excellent feedback for the courses and the event organisation. With courses for competitors from 10 to 95 it truly was a great occasion as runners were faced with working out the complex terrain and tough running conditions and at one point a very heavy hailstorm. The British Men’s and Women’s champions were Euan Tryner and Daisy Macnamara, respectively, both part of a very strong Edinburgh university team. The Welsh Elite Champions were Fay Stemp-Walsh of Airienteers and Tom Wood of Eryri.
Swansea Bay OC had a very successful day with a good number of Welsh Champions, with Sam Payne in M14, Mara Beaman-Tucker in W12, Robn Irwin in M18, Patrick Tudor in M35, Bethan Irwin in W45 and Kate o’Sullivan in W60. Many others finishing in 2nd and 3rd on the podium or in the top 5. So a great achievement for all those who ran. Photos are here
.The following day the club fielded 9 teams in the British Relay Championships held at Margam Country Park, the most it has fielded for many years. Conditions in Margam park were challenging underfoot as teams faced plenty of mud and soft ground as they had to navigate quickly around the tricky vegetation and contours. The Men’s Premier was won by an Edinburgh University team ahead of Forth Valley and in third place a second Edinburgh University team. The Women’s premier was won by Auld Reekie O Club ahead of South Yorkshire and Edinburgh University.
The highlight for the club was the fantastic result in the M18 class where the Swansea Bay team of Vince Nagy-Kovacs, Alex Peltor and Robin Irwin took the Gold medal ahead of Walton Chasers and Forth Valley.
A Swansea Bay O Club team also took silver in the Women’s short relay class, and 6 out of the other 7 teams finished in the top 10 in their respective classes.
A great set of results over the whole weekend both individually and in teams and confirming the talent that our club has. Full results of the weekend are available here. https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/BOC/2026/
