After a 8 year absence due to Covid, the Welsh 6 Day Orienteering Festival returned to South Wales in July. Croseo 2024 as it was called, was based at Brecon and welcomed over 1200 competitors from 20 countries to events were held across the Brecon Beacons and Merthyr Mawr, from the Black Mountain in the west to Llangynidr in the East. Our Club played a lead roll in the organisation and management of the event. We not only organised two of the 6 days but also took on the organisation of the Model Event on the Saturday and the Brecon Urban sprint on the rest day. A remarkable achievement for such a small club, with a small number of active but enthusiastic members. We also took on the organisation of the fixtures, the website, mapping of 3 days, arranging all the bus transport, the social calendar and and the sourcing of prizes. All were done to a high standard and judging by the feedback from all the competitors we managed to play a significant part in a hugely successful event. So a huge thank you to all the volunteers from the club who helped to make all this happen. We are also grateful to the many volunteers from other clubs who supported us on the day to take on the roles required to make the event a success.
We were delighted to be able to use two brand new technically challenging areas for our days and these will be able to be used many times in the future. The Club Cake stall raising money for our juniors was a great success and members worked hard to bake a range of tasty cakes and source items to ensure there was plenty to go round. A remarkable £1200 was raised to support our juniors in the future.
