The blustery weekend provided a great chance for runners to test their skills on the technical sand dune terrain around Swansea.
Firstly, Saturday night brought the Western Night league to Kenfig Burrows for the orienteers to tackle the contours of Kenfig at night. Not daunted by this, a good quality field took on the challenge set by junior Freddie Lake to visit as many controls as possible in the 60-minute time limit. Only Ben Mitchell of SBOC managed to get all the controls in the time limit to win the race and many runners picked up a lot of points, they failed to get back in the 60 minutes and were penalised heavily! Well done Freddie on a great event.

On Sunday, our 3rd winter league of the season was combined with the 2023 Club Championships and as a result some 40 club members took on the challenge to be crowned the Club Champion. We were joined by a good number of runners from other clubs and the location was, the tough and technical, Broughton Burrows at the end of Gower. With strong winds, long grass and snagging bramble, all runners had to push themselves hard to secure good times and the technical nature of the area meant there was no room for navigational errors.
Well done to all the course winners and a big thank you to Margaret Reynolds for putting on a full range of courses.
The course winners were:
Yellow - Lucie Morris
Orange - James Morris
Light Green - Nicholas Gale
Green – Steve Jones
Blue – Robin Irwin
Brown – Ben Mitchell
