On a fabulously sunny Sunday over 80 runners from all over the UK competed in the Welsh League event on the challenging terrain of Ogof Ffynnon Ddu on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Under blue skies and full sun nearly 40 SBOC members battled it out for the right to be called Club Champion. The courses were planned by junior Freddie Lake and for his first event he did a great job under the watchful eye of Phil Jenkins the Controller. The courses were challenging and required detailed navigation and concentration, but the tough conditions underfoot meant for long times.
The organiser Bethan Irwin assembled an experienced team to ensure the event ran smoothly and with the Junior Cake stall again presenting a great array of delicious cakes, there was a great atmosphere.
It was great to see two of our new families getting stuck into their first proper event and well done to all the young ones for completing their first proper yellow course. Well done to Ben Mitchell, Margaret Reynolds and Sam Payne who finished first on Brown, Green and Orange Courses respectively. Also of note were the results of Peter O’kane and Gary Waters, both finishing in 3rd place on Green and Short Green respectively. A great achievement in their first year of technical orienteering and against a strong field. Click here for the Full Results.
The results and handicaps will now be processed to work out who will be the 2024 club champions and the results will be announced at the Christmas social on 22nd December.
